Hydraulic Filters

In the oil, gas, and industrial machinery business, hydraulic filters, air preparation filters, and lube oil filters are mission-critical for your daily operations. Without these crucial elements, your machinery either shuts down or suffers a dramatically shorter service life.

That’s why Wilson Company stocks a wide range of filtration solutions for your shop and field operations, no matter what business you’re in.

The Importance of Filtration

Hydraulic systems are extremely common these days, on everything from shovels and excavators to assembly line presses. As common as they are, so are their attendant seal leaks, usually on a piston assembly.

Some of these leaks are symptoms of inadequately filtered hydraulic oil. Contaminants get in and, if not filtered out, cause seal failures.

If your shop or production floor utilizes plant air, you should be aware that even if your compressor has an air dryer installed, that doesn’t mean the air has been adequately filtered at the tool station.

Condensation and particulate matter can slowly obliterate the working parts of many air-powered tools. The only way to mitigate these losses is with adequate plant air prep at each tool station or zone.

Lube oil is the lifeblood of any industrial engine. Since basically all of them are powered by diesel, and emissions standards continue to push the envelope of what is technically possible, soot that once went up in smoke is now trapped in the engine’s lube oil, requiring new approaches in intelligent filtration methods.

These three areas of industrial filtration — hydraulic, pneumatic, and engine — are where Wilson Company specializes.

Lube Oil Filters

Lube oil filters keep the lifeblood of any industrial engine pure and unhindered so that it can do its job: keeping your engines alive.

Without lube oil at normal operating loads, catastrophic failure is about sixty seconds away, so it’s critical that your lube oil filtration needs are met. Lube oil provides many mission-critical benefits to an engine:

  • Corrosion control
  • Cleaning internal parts with additives and detergents
  • Cooling
  • Lubrication

As emission standards have become ever more rigorous, lube oil and its engineered additives have filled the performance gap created by the recirculation of diesel soot in modern engines.

Since soot must be either recirculated through Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) systems or trapped in Diesel Particulate Filters (DPFs) and purged in a Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) cycle, soot has nowhere to hide but in your engine’s lube oil.

And soot is not soluble. It is a very abrasive solid. This reality means that engineers have had to step up with a solution in lube oil additives and filtration system enhancements that keep today’s industrial engines running strong.

On the filtration side of things, that means better, more precisely engineered lube oil filtration solutions and even bypass filtration loops that continuously filter lube oil on a separate loop than what is being supplied to the engine.

This setup allows for a more aggressive filtration strategy since a bypass loop doesn’t need to supply oil at the high volumes or pressures required by the engine’s operating parameters.

These bypass filters can therefore filter out much smaller particulate matter, and smaller particles in the oil supply means they’re more likely to be held in suspension in the lube oil and therefore pose less danger to the engine’s reciprocating components.

It’s critical to observe the manufacturer’s recommended maintenance intervals for this reason. Oil doesn’t “break down” with use. The fact is that it simply becomes so full of contaminants that it passes a point of diminishing returns and begins to do more harm than good.

This is why both engine oil and your engine’s lube oil filter need to be changed regularly.

Wilson Company has a full range of lube oil filtration solutions for your business, no matter what industry you’re in.
